10 Things to know at the first breastfeeding

For a mother who first gave birth, breastfeeding is the most anticipated moment. Because breastfeeding is not just a process of nutritional fulfillment of the Little, but also as an effort to strengthen the bond between mother and baby.

However, in order for the breastfeeding process to proceed smoothly and smooth, here are ten things you must know:

1. Early Initiation of Breastfeeding (EIBF)

Early breastfeeding initiation is essential to initiate the entire breastfeeding process. The success of EIBF generally determines the success of the breastfeeding process itself.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that EIBF be performed for at least the first hour after the baby is born. The trick is to put the baby in the stomach position on the mother's chest, and let him look for the nipple to suckle.

2. Know the problems that may arise

Various problems may arise during breastfeeding, such as nipples, breast hard and pain, until breast infection.

For blisters, you can prevent it by resetting the baby's attachment and breast position. When the nipples appear reddish and begin to scratch, you can apply a little milk in the nipple before and after breastfeeding.

Meanwhile, to prevent hard breasts and breast infections, you should breastfeed the baby as often as possible in both breasts. In addition, you can also do a warm compress when the breast feels hard. However, if the breasts have started to red and felt warm, do cold compress before the warm compress.

3. Breastfeeding infants 10-15 minutes

To get the fat in breast milk, the baby needs to breastfeed for 15 minutes. So, if within 5 minutes the baby does not appear to suck anymore, wake him by tickling the soles of his feet or rubbing his back slowly.

4. Newborn babies generally suckle 8 times per day

Babies suckle every 3 hours, including at night. Therefore, inevitably you must be willing to stay up for the fulfillment of the baby's nutritional needs.

5. No medication is allowed

Same thing with pregnancy, nursing mothers also should not carelessly take the drug. Remember to always ask a medical practitioner before taking any kind of medication during breastfeeding.

6. The sick mother can still breastfeed

Many think, if the mother is sick then the milk will also contain germs. The assumption is not entirely correct.

Indeed, there are certain conditions where the mother really can not breastfeed the Little One, such as suffering from HIV-AIDS or being in chemotherapy treatment for cancer. However, generally for a mild illness such as fever, the mother can still breastfeed the little one safely.

7. Breast milk production may be small

In the first days after delivery, your milk production may be small. You do not need to panic and worry. Remember that baby's stomach size is still small, so the capacity is still small.

As your baby gets older, the volume of milk you produce will continue to grow. The thing to do is to continue feeding the baby, and milking your milk using a hand (hand expression) or pump. Thus, your body will continue to trigger to produce more milk.

8. The right breastfeeding position

Basically, breastfeeding can be done while sitting or lying down, as long as the attachment is right. But you have to keep making sure that the baby's stomach is facing the mother's abdomen, the baby's mouth is wide open, the lower lip closes most of the black area around the nipple (areola), and the baby does the sucking motion.

9. Mother work can still breastfeed

Back to work is not necessarily the reason to stop breastfeeding the Little. You can still succeed in giving exclusive breastfeeding with milking during working, and storing breast milk in the right way.

When the mother is at work, the baby can consume dairy milk. While mom is at home, the baby can be breastfed right from your breast. With this, milk production will stay awake and you will not experience breast swelling, hard, or pain.

10. Breastfeeding makes mom happy

One of the things that mothers often experience after giving birth is baby blues syndrome. This is a condition where the mother feels sad or depressed due to the decrease of some hormones.

But you do not need to worry, because breastfeeding can be a way out. When breastfeeding, the body will release the hormone oxytocin. This hormone is often referred to as a 'love hormone', which will make mom feel happy, comfortable, and happy.

In addition to the above things, women who want to enter breastfeeding is also recommended to prepare the condition of the body by consuming Blackmores Pregnancy and Breast-Feeding Gold.
