5 Types of Cancer that Are Vulnerable Occur in Men

Cancer continues to be the disease that causes the most number 2 deaths in the world. According to data, the disease has caused 9.6 million deaths and 18.1 million new cases in 2018.

Cancer can be experienced by anyone, both men and women. However, there are several types of cancer that are specifically more susceptible to men. Here are 3 types of cancer in question:

Lung cancer

According to the World Cancer Research Fund, lung cancer is the most common type of cancer experienced by men worldwide. The case reached 15.5% of all new cases of cancer in 2018.

Smokers have the biggest risk factor for lung cancer. The risk increases with the duration of smoking and the number of cigarettes smoked. Worse, the risk of lung cancer also increases in passive smokers (second hand smokers). Not only that, other risk factors such as breathing radon gas, exposure to asbestos or nickel, and a history of lung cancer in the family can also increase the risk of the deadly disease.

Related to symptoms, lung cancer generally shows no symptoms and signs at an early stage. New symptoms occur until they enter a further course of the disease. Some symptoms and signs that need to be watched out for are coughs that don't heal, coughing up bleeding, shortness of breath, chest pain, hoarseness, bone pain, and drastic weight loss without obvious reasons.

Prostate cancer

According to the World Cancer Research Fund, new cases of prostate cancer worldwide reach around 1.2 million in 2018. This makes the disease rank second as the highest type of cancer that occurs in men.

Prostate cancer develops slowly and some are given minimal therapy for healing. But in some cases, prostate cancer can develop aggressively and spread rapidly. This type of cancer begins with a DNA mutation, which disrupts the development of prostate cells. Increasing age, family history, and obesity or excess weight can increase a man's risk of developing prostate cancer.

Similar to lung cancer, new symptoms and signs of prostate cancer are only seen in the course of the disease. Symptoms and signs that can appear are more frequent urination, weak urine, difficult to start urinating, blood in semen, and ejaculation disorders.

Colon cancer

Several studies have shown that colon cancer is more susceptible to men than women. According to the World Cancer Research Fund, the number of cases of colon cancer occupies the third highest number for this type of cancer in men worldwide. The number of new cases has reached around 1 million in 2018.

In most cases, it is unclear what the real cause of colon cancer is. Experts suspect that the disease is based on the interference of genetic material in the cells of the large intestine.

Many risk factors play a role in the occurrence of colon cancer, including age, history of intestinal disease (polyps, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease), family history, lack of physical activity, history of diabetes, obesity, smoking, low fiber and high fat diets, and excessive alcohol consumption.

As for some of the symptoms and signs of colon cancer that should be watched out for, namely changes in bowel pattern more than 1 month (diarrhea or constipation), bloody bowel movements, flatulence, abdominal pain, unsatisfied bowel sensation, and weight loss body for no apparent reason.

Stomach cancer

Stomach cancer (gastric adenocarcinoma) or also known as gastric cancer is one of the most painful cancers.

Gastric cancer is often not detected because it does not have obvious initial symptoms. However, if it causes symptoms, it usually includes nausea and vomiting, experiencing symptoms of gastric acid reflux such as chest and upper stomach feels painful (heartburn), loss of appetite, and drastic weight loss.

Heart cancer

The type of cancer in men who need to be aware of next is liver cancer. Judging from the GLOBOCAN data, the number of new events and deaths from liver cancer is not much different. As many as 15.3 percent of new cases of liver cancer, and the death rate from liver cancer in men is 14.3 percent.

Always keep in mind that cancer is a health problem that threatens all citizens of the world. For men, stay away from risk factors that make cancer easier to occur. In addition, also recognize the symptoms and signs of cancer. Before attacking, it's a good idea to make prevention and early detection efforts by conducting regular health checks.
