6 Facts about Sensitive Teeth You Must Know

Sensitive teeth are pain sensations that are felt for some time when doing certain activities such as brushing teeth, and eating or drinking hot and cold. There are several facts about sensitive teeth that you must know.

One of them, the discomfort that arises from sensitive teeth occurs because of the erosion of enamel (protective layer of teeth) and the cementum layer that protects the roots of the teeth. The intensity that is felt also varies, ranging from mild to severe.

Sensitive teeth are one of the problems in the teeth that often torture the sufferer, so it needs to be dealt with appropriately so as not to get worse.

The most common symptom felt in sensitive teeth is the emergence of sharp pain when the teeth are exposed to stimuli, such as hot or cold temperatures and acidic foods. These stimuli can cause discomfort to the sufferer.

4. Can be treated with special toothpaste

One way to deal with sensitive teeth quickly is to use toothpaste specifically for sensitive teeth. The content in it serves to block the tubules in the open dentine so that stimuli that can trigger sensitivity to the teeth do not reach the nerves.

However, if the feeling of pain in the teeth does not go away, immediately check the dentist so that the pain does not get worse.

5. Brushing your teeth after eating can damage the enamel

Brushing teeth is one way that can be done to maintain healthy teeth and mouth, especially after eating foods or drinks that contain carbohydrates and high sugar.

Brushing your teeth should be done at least 30 minutes to 1 hour after eating. Because the acid produced from food or drinks can erode the protective layer of the teeth so that it can cause damage.

6. Use of mouthwash

Some over-the-mouth mouthwashes contain alcohol, acid, or chemicals that can be the cause of sensitive teeth getting worse, especially if the dentin is open. Alternatively, you can clean your teeth with dental floss to clean up the leftover food that slips between your teeth, which cannot be reached by a toothbrush.

To avoid the annoying aches that arise due to sensitive teeth, you must diligently brush your teeth twice a day by applying the right techniques. Choose a toothbrush with soft bristles, and brush slowly so as not to erode the protective layer of the teeth. In addition, use a toothpaste containing fluoride so that the teeth remain healthy and strong, and prevent cavities.
