7 Natural Ways to Overcome Sprue on Pregnant Women

Sprue (aphthous stomatitis) is a wound in the mouth that is usually white with the edges of the wound red and cause pain. Sprue can appear on the gums, tongue, inner cheeks, lips and palate. Some things that cause mothers to experience thrush during pregnancy are:

  • The presence of hormonal disorders,
  • Decreased immunity,
  • Iron or vitamin B12 deficiency,
  • Viral infection,
  • Certain food allergies,
  • Eating spicy food,
  • Having Crohn's disease,
  • Have Celiac disease, and
  • Injuries to the mouth layer from being bitten or using braces.

Various Natural Ways to Overcome Sprue

The first thing that pregnant women can do to deal with canker sores is to meet the needs of vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin B12, zinc, folic acid, iron.

Pregnant women can fulfill their nutritional needs by consuming low fat milk, eggs, chicken, cashews, fruits, and green vegetables. Adequate nutritional needs are also useful for maintaining the health of pregnant women and fetuses.




Apart from fulfilling nutritional needs, there are at least four easy ways that are believed to be able to treat canker sores while pregnant, namely:

Gargle with chamomile tea

The content of azulene and levomenol in chamomile tea is believed to be able to overcome canker sores while pregnant. The trick is to routinely rinse using warm steeping chamomile tea.

In addition, pregnant women can also compress thrush with wet chamomile tea bags for several minutes. For maximum results, pregnant women can repeat compresses and gargle as much as 3-4 times a day.

Gargle with salt water

Another way that pregnant women can do to overcome canker sores is by gargling mouthwash using salt water. The trick, mix half a teaspoon of salt with a glass (250ml) of warm water, then use it to rinse for about 30 seconds.

Compress with ice cubes

Pregnant women can use ice cubes to reduce pain and inflammation caused by canker sores. The trick, just by compressing canker sores using ice cubes. However, do it slowly and carefully. Do not let the ice that is used actually hurt the inside of the mouth.

Use mouthwash

Mouthwash is useful for preventing nausea, strengthening teeth, and can help overcome canker sores. For pregnant women, choose a mouthwash that is free of alcohol. Don't forget to routinely brush your teeth with a soft toothbrush and non-foaming toothpaste (not containing sodium sulfate).

Banana and Honey

The combination of bananas and honey can be an alternative medicine for canker sores for pregnant women. Bananas are rich in vitamins and minerals that are useful for treating canker sores, while honey is efficacious as an anti-inflammatory that can cure irritation of the inner skin. The trick, puree a banana, then mix a spoonful of honey, stir until smooth, then apply to canker sores.

Coconut water

One of the causes of canker sores is usually due to deep heat. Well, one of the drinks that can relieve heat is coconut water. Apart from relieving heartburn, coconut water is also known for its benefits for the health of pregnant women and the fetus in the womb. Coconut water also contains electrolytes which are useful for replacing lost fluids in the mother's body.

Orange

During pregnancy, mothers are encouraged to consume fruits that are rich in vitamin C such as oranges on a regular basis to maintain health and help overcome various types of complaints, one of which is thrush. The content of vitamin C from oranges can help the healing process of tissue that is injured due to canker sores, as well as increase the resistance of pregnant women.

Sprue will usually heal on its own within two weeks. However, pregnant women are advised to immediately consult a doctor if the size of canker sores is getting bigger, accompanied by symptoms of fever, or if canker sores do not go away after more than two weeks.

Prevent Sprue from Coming Back

Canker sores can interfere with comfort while eating. As a result of canker sores, pregnant women may be more lazy to eat, because they feel sick when chewing food. Though pregnant women need adequate nutrition to maintain their immune system, while supporting the development of the fetus in the womb.

Some ways that can be done to prevent the onset of canker sores, namely:

  • Routinely maintain healthy teeth and mouth.
  • Be careful when chewing food. In order to avoid injury to the lining of the mouth which can cause sores and canker sores. For example because of being bitten or stuck in the bone or fish spines.
  • Increase drinking water.
  • Manage stress well and get enough rest.
