Affected by Degenerative Disease More Early due to Bad Lifestyle

An unhealthy lifestyle can increase the risk of various types of diseases, including degenerative diseases. You need to apply a healthy lifestyle as early as possible to avoid the disease.

Degenerative diseases are generally caused by a gradual decrease in the performance of body cells which then affects the function of organs in general. Most degenerative diseases arise due to age, not from viruses or bacteria. poor lifestyle also increases the risk of this disease.

Lifestyle factors that can increase the risk of degenerative diseases are diverse. Those of you who like to eat unhealthy foods, are lazy to move or exercise, and have habits that interfere with your health, are more at risk for degenerative diseases. Habits that can interfere with health include smoking and consuming excessive alcoholic drinks.

Degenerative diseases that often occur

Some degenerative diseases are triggered by daily bad habits which then cause interference with certain organs. Some degenerative diseases that often occur, namely:

  • Type 2 diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is generally also influenced by genetic factors, so children of parents with type 2 diabetes need to be examined and maintain their lifestyle, especially diet. Apart from heredity and age, the risk of type 2 diabetes can also increase in people with certain conditions, such as people who are not active, are overweight or are accustomed to eating foods rich in fat and carbohydrates. This pattern of life triggers a disruption in the system of regulating blood sugar levels in the body.

  • Cardiovascular disease

Cardiovascular disease, also known as heart disease, is generally caused by a buildup of fatty plaque in the blood vessels leading to the heart, called atherosclerosis. This buildup can then inhibit blood flow to the tissues and organs of the body. This condition can be caused by various bad habits, such as lack of exercise, unhealthy eating patterns, stress, and smoking.

Generally, symptoms of heart disease include chest pain, gasping for breath, and pain or numbness in the feet. This disease also causes mild headaches, dizziness, a fast or slow heartbeat, and swelling of the feet, ankles, or hands.

This disease is a type of degenerative disease that cannot be cured. The treatment is only intended to relieve the symptoms experienced by the patient. In general, the main key to treatment for heart disease is changing lifestyle to be healthier. In severe cases, surgery may be needed to repair the valve, open a blood vessel or insert a pacemaker. Sometimes, a heart transplant is the only choice for successful treatment.

  • Osteoporosis

In addition to vitamin D deficiency which causes bone fragility, osteoporosis is more prone to occur in people who experience paralysis or in people who move less actively every day. All-day sitting watching TV or sitting working in front of a laptop can accelerate the decline in the quality of bone density. In the long run, smoking and consuming alcoholic beverages also play a role in reducing bone density.

In the early stages, you may not know if you have this disease because the symptoms tend to be vague. But after the bones are getting weaker, you might just be aware of:

  • Back pain, which is caused by a fractured spine
  • Decreased height over time
  • Body posture bent
  • Bones break easily even just because of a small impact
  • Cancer

Cancer is generally caused by mutations in DNA in the body's cells. This gene mutation can be derived from parental DNA or can arise later on. There are many things that can trigger gene mutations, namely a bad lifestyle such as smoking, obesity, lack of exercise, and consumption of foods that contain carcinogenic substances (chemicals that trigger cancer).

  • Hypertension

Hypertension is a condition where your blood pressure is always above 140/90 millimeters of mercury (mmHg). Blood pressure itself is the power of blood flow from the heart that drives the blood vessel walls. The strength of this blood pressure is ideally always changing, influenced by activities carried out by the heart (for example, being in a sport or in a normal / resting state) and endurance of blood vessels. Normally, human blood pressure is usually at 120/80 mmHg.

Hypertension, the cause of which is not clear is called primary hypertension. However, high blood pressure can also be caused by a bad lifestyle and diet. This disease is often referred to as the silent killer disease or silent killer because the symptoms of this disease tend to be vague. The best way to find out if you have this disease or not is to check your blood pressure regularly.

If blood pressure is left high continuously, this condition can trigger various life-threatening complications like heart disease that are not treated properly. Some serious complications due to hypertension are coronary heart disease, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, blindness, diabetes, and many other dangerous diseases.

In addition, diseases related to changes in brain structure and function, such as Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia and Parkinson's, also include degenerative diseases. These conditions can be genetically inherited and can affect a person's memory so that it interferes with daily activities.

How to Apply a Healthy Lifestyle

The risk of degenerative diseases can actually be prevented from an early age by living a healthy lifestyle. This can be started by reducing the consumption of processed foods, especially high-fat foods, such as red meat and sausages. Healthy foods such as vegetables, fruits, and low-fat meats are recommended because they contain various kinds of nutrients the body needs.

In addition, make it a habit to move actively between daily activities and avoid sitting too long. For workers who spend their time sitting at a computer, use lunchtime to socialize to a friend's table or go to lunch outside the office, so the body remains active. Limiting the use of elevators and switching to stairs is also a wise step to start a healthy life.

In order for the body to be more active, get used to regular exercise at least 20 minutes every day or an average of 2.5 hours per week. Don't forget to avoid cigarettes and liquor, before getting addicted and it's hard to stop.

Degenerative diseases can be minimized by applying a healthy lifestyle as early as possible. It is also recommended to regularly check your health or undergo a medical checkup so that the disease can be diagnosed and treated as early as possible.
