Be Careful, Babies Often Vomit Could Be the Cause of Pilorus Stenosis

Vomiting in babies often causes anxiety for parents. Of the many causes, pyloric stenosis includes medical complaints that often cause the baby to vomit. Experts say, pyloric stenosis is a common condition that often affects the opening (pylorus) between the stomach and small milk in infants.

Pilorus itself is a muscle valve that keeps food in the stomach, until it is ready to continue to the next stage in the digestive process. This disease will make the pyloric muscles thicken and block food from entering the baby's small intestine.

According to experts, this medical condition is more often experienced by newborns, rarely in infants over the age of six months. However, there are times when this can also occur in adults.

So, what are the symptoms and causes of pyloric stenosis?

How common is pyloric stenosis in infants?

About 1 in 500 babies have had pyrolytic stenosis, but this disease is rarely found in babies over the age of 6 months. This condition is also more common in male sex children (especially male eldest children) and comes from white race. Girls and Asian, Hispanic and black races are less likely to develop pyloric stenosis. Babies are also more susceptible to this disease if they have parents with a history of the same disease.

Symptoms of Pilorus Stenosis

This one problem often makes a baby vomit after breastfeeding. How come? The reason is that milk cannot flow from the stomach into the small intestine. The expert said, the vomiting was more severe than the usual spit which was getting worse and worse.

Mothers must be vigilant, due to vomiting issued by babies can be dehydrated because they do not get enough body fluids. Not only that, the baby can also experience weight loss, even his weight will decrease. Well, here are other symptoms that can occur when the baby has pyloric stenosis:

  1. Vomiting every meal. Initially, vomiting babies with pyloric stenosis will look normal. However, when the pylorus narrows further, the vomiting will spray strongly. In fact, sometimes vomiting can mix with blood.
  2. Contraction of the stomach. Symptoms of pyloric stenosis can also be seen from wavy movements (peristalsis) in the upper abdomen. Precisely, after the little one drinks milk, but before vomiting. The expert said, this movement arises because the stomach muscles try to push food through the narrowed pylorus.
  3. Always feeling hungry. This is natural, because babies will feel hungry again because the nutrients they get out through vomiting. As a result, they will also show signs of wanting to be breastfed.
  4. The pattern of defecation changes. This is because the obstruction of food to the large intestine can cause a decrease in the frequency of bowel movements. Not only that, this problem can also cause changes in stool shape, even constipation.
