Eating snakes are believed to be able to overcome certain diseases and bring health benefits. However, these benefits cannot be obtained arbitrarily, because not all types of snakes can be used as food and treatment.

Various Benefits of Eating Snakes

In addition to consuming meat and blood, other snake body parts that are believed to be able to overcome several types of diseases are bile. Python snake bile, for example, is claimed to be able to treat high fever in children.

Side Effects of Eating Snakes

One of them is poisoning. Poisoning can occur if poisons and Salmonella bacteria that are still attached to the snake meat come swallowed. The risk will be even greater if you eat snakes that are cooked incorrectly.

  • Salmonella

  • E. Coli

This bacterium is associated with diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. In cases of severe infections can be found symptoms of dehydration, bloody urination, decreased amount of urine, and pale skin or bruises.

  • Clostridium

Clostridium bacteria can trigger botulism which can cause paralysis to death. Generally, botulism occurs when a person consumes food contaminated with the bacteria.

  • Shigella, Yersinia, and Campylobacter

Shigella dysenteriae, Yersinia enteroliths, and Campylobacter jejuni are the causes of liquid loose stools accompanied by blood, stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting.

  • Staphylococcus aureus

Staphylococcus aureus bacteria can cause various diseases, such as skin infections and respiratory tract.

  • Spirometra

This type of worm causes sparganum disease. In China, for example, cases of sparganum attack people who consume raw/uncooked snake meat and frogs, and drink bile and snake blood.
