Body Weight Decreases Drastically It's Dangerous

To get the ideal body weight, not infrequently some people are willing to make weight loss efforts practically, in hopes of getting quick results. It must be known, the best way is to do it slowly and consistently. The reason is, the weight that dropped dramatically is actually dangerous for health.

Everyone would want to have a healthy body with an ideal weight. Bodyweight is ideal if it matches the normal range of body mass index. For those with problems with excess body weight or obsessed with being thin, sometimes they are willing to go on a super-strict diet to lose weight quickly.

In fact, the weight that dropped dramatically does not mean that the fat in the body decreases a lot. Fat is difficult to burn in a short time. Instead of fat, what many lose from the body is water or even body tissue. Even too strict diets can make the body starve and not get important nutrition.

Due to Drastic Weight Loss

Drastic weight loss is often associated with various health problems. Bodyweight reduced by 2 to 3 pounds per week can cause:

1. Reducing metabolic rate

Naturally, the body has a way to protect its system against excessive weight loss. If the number of calories suddenly drops, the body will compensate by reducing the body's metabolic rate.

2 Loss of muscle mass

The body will enter the ketosis process (burning muscles for energy) to reduce hunger, but this method is not safe and healthy. If the fat level is reduced, then the body will lose some of the muscle mass.

3. Malnutrition

When this diet people will greatly limit the food intake they consume so often the amount of nutrition is not the same age as recommended and experiencing malnutrition. If allowed to continue it can have a serious risk to health. Malnutrition also reduces the intake of vitamins and minerals which can weaken the hair follicles and make them fragile and fall out.

4. Skin problems

Studies show that when weight is lost quickly, the skin does not get enough time to shrink as old as the new size that triggers the occurrence of stretch marks. In addition, there is also the possibility of experiencing sagging skin.

5. Insomnia

Generally, it is difficult to get enough sleep and rest when the stomach is empty or hungry, this condition triggers a sleep disorder which can eventually become insomnia.

6. Diarrhea

This condition can also cause severe diarrhea which is sometimes accompanied by constipation. This condition, of course, can help you lose weight, but at certain periods can cause dehydration and even life-threatening.

7. Eating disorders

Eating disorders are known to cause a variety of health problems such as malnutrition, loss of electrolytes, minerals, anemia, hypertension, hormonal imbalance, infertility, osteoporosis, fatigue, and organ disorders.

8. Heart disease

Rapid weight loss can suppress the heart's work and make it more stressful, this condition can be one of the risk factors for heart disease so people who go on a 'yo-yo' diet are at greater risk of heart disease.

Other disturbances that occur are:

  • Electrolyte disorders.
  • Hair loss.
  • Irregular menstruation.
  • Constipation or difficulty defecating.
  • Gallstone disease.

The weight loss as much as the numbers mentioned above is already dangerous, you can imagine if the decline is more than that.

What is a decrease in safe weight like?

Safe weight loss is around 1,1 pounds to 2,2 pounds per week. Many experts recommend cutting 500 - 1,000 calories in daily food intake to achieve this goal. How:

  • Reduce portions of food and eat slowly.
  • Increase consumption of vegetables and fruit.
  • Increase the intake of protein foods.
  • Routine exercise for around 150 minutes per week or approximately 30 minutes per day.
  • Avoid snacks and sweet foods.
  • Reduce fat intake and be careful in consuming healthy fats.

A healthy diet is different for everyone. This depends on medical conditions, gender, age, and activities that are undertaken daily. Therefore, instead of trying an extreme diet that is risky, it's better to consult a doctor to get a healthy diet plan.

Also, consult your doctor if you are not on a diet, but your weight drops dramatically. Because there can be other health problems that you experience, such as thyroid disease, malnutrition, cancer, diabetes mellitus, heart failure, liver and kidney damage, TB, HIV, celiac disease, severe stress, or depression.
