Coronavirus Can Cause These 3 Diseases

Maybe some of you have heard about coronavirus infections that first broke out in Wuhan, China. Horrifically, the virus that has now spread to several countries is not only dangerous but also life-threatening!

Chinese authorities revealed that since December last year, the virus had infected hundreds of people and killed 17 people.

As the name implies, this infection is caused by a virus called Coronavirus. This virus causes inflammation of the lungs so that sufferers will complain of shortness of breath, coughing, and fever.

MERS

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is a viral respiratory disease caused by Coronavirus Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) which was first identified in Saudi Arabia in 2012. As many as 35% of patients registered with this infection die.

The spectrum of MERS infection ranges from no symptoms, mild respiratory symptoms, but in some cases can cause death.

Patients will complain of fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Severe illness can cause respiratory failure that requires ventilator assistance and treatment in an intensive care unit.

This virus can cause more severe illness in the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. People with chronic diseases, such as kidney disease, cancer, chronic lung disease, and diabetes are also more susceptible to this virus.

SARS

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) is a lung infection that first appeared in November 2002 in Guangdong Province, China. SARS can spread from person to person. Transmission seems to occur especially during the second week of the disease, where the peak of excretion virus occurs in respiratory secretions.

Symptoms of this disease are similar to influenza, where sufferers will complain of fever, headache, or diarrhea. Despite being the most commonly reported symptom, fever is sometimes absent at the initial examination, especially in elderly patients and those who are depressed by the immune system.

Wuhan Pneumonia

The last coronavirus infection occurred in Wuhan, China. The type of coronavirus that causes pneumonia in Wuhan is different from what was previously found in Saudi Arabia and Guangdong.

Novel (new) Coronavirus (2019 n-CoV) or also known as Wuhan Coronavirus is a new type that has not been previously identified in humans. This type is what causes lung infections in Wuhan today.

This disease was first discovered in the seafood market in the Wuhan area. Initially, Coronavirus disease was thought to only spread from animals to humans. However, transmission among humans has recently been confirmed.

To find out the symptoms of coronavirus, usually, patients will complain of fever, coughing, and shortness of breath. In severe infections, the patient will feel severe shortness of breath that is life-threatening. To date, no specific vaccine or therapy has been found for this lung infection.

Well, look at the impact of this coronavirus infection. But don't worry. You can reduce the risk of contracting coronavirus by adopting a healthy lifestyle. Always remember to wash your hands. Also avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with your hands that have not been washed.
