Fermented Milk, Types and Benefits for Digestion

Most people might know fermented milk as yogurt. In fact, there are actually other types of fermented milk that are no less beneficial to health.

For those of you who often experience indigestion, consumption of fermented milk containing probiotics can be a solution. Probiotics play a role in increasing the number of good bacteria in the digestive tract, thus bringing a variety of benefits for health and endurance.

What is Fermented Milk?

Fermented milk will experience changes in protein, fat, carbohydrates, and other organic materials. This fermentation is carried out by certain types of lactic acid bacteria. Each type of bacteria has the ability to break down different substrates, resulting in different types of fermented milk.

Just like yogurt, probiotic drinks are also made from fermented milk. There are a variety of probiotic drinks, one of which is a probiotic drink fermented by the Lactobacillus Casei Shirota strain. This type of probiotic drink is more easily digested by the body, even in people who suffer from milk allergies or lactose intolerance.

Probiotic drinks containing L. Casei Shirota strain are good for maintaining digestive tract health. This drink contains good bacteria that can survive when passing through the stomach acid so that the content of probiotics can enter all digestive tracts.

Benefits of Fermented Milk

Various health benefits of fermented milk that you can get by consuming it regularly are:

1. Increase the number of good bacteria in the digestive tract

The content of probiotics found in fermented milk can stimulate the growth of good bacteria and suppress the growth of bad bacteria in the digestive tract. The effect, digestive health will be better maintained.

Because probiotics found in fermented milk can maintain digestive tract health, the immune system will indirectly be better. If the digestive tract is healthy, nutrients from food can be absorbed properly, including various nutrients needed to strengthen the body's immune system.

Consumption of fermented milk on a regular basis is able to overcome constipation. By consuming fermented milk containing Lactobacillus probiotics for 4-8 weeks, symptoms of constipation which include difficult bowel movements, abdominal pain, and flatulence can also be overcome.

4. Helps overcome diarrhea

Consumption of fermented milk can prevent diarrhea, especially after taking antibiotics. In addition to preventing diarrhea, consumption of probiotics is also able to relieve symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

5. Lower cholesterol levels

Probiotics found in fermented milk can reduce cholesterol levels in people with high cholesterol. This is because probiotics can bind cholesterol in the intestine so that it can stop its absorption. Probiotics can also help produce bile acids or salts that break down fat and cholesterol.

6. Reducing poisons

As previously said, fermented milk can maintain digestive tract health. A healthy digestive tract can filter and reduce the absorption of poisons or harmful chemicals that are often found in food.

7. Contains lactic acid and acetic acid

Some fermented milk contains lactic acid and acetic acid. The lactic acid in fermented milk can overcome diarrhea caused by bacteria or viruses. While the acetic acid in fermented milk L. casei Shirota strain can fight the bacteria C. Jejuni which causes diarrhea.

Fermented milk has many benefits for your health. However, make sure the fermented milk that you consume contains active probiotics. So that the benefits can be felt, consume fermented milk regularly.
