Mayo Diet vs Detox Diet, Which Is Better?

Countless diets that are claimed to be able to lose weight while curing diseases. Among the popular diet methods are detox diets and mayo diets. You may have tried both and succeeded, or even failed miserably.

All diet methods have their own advantages and disadvantages, so they must be adapted to the needs and abilities of each person's body. Therefore, not everyone is compatible with a detox diet or mayo diet. So before deciding to do both diets, it's a good idea to recognize these diets first.

Detox diet

As the name suggests, a detox diet is a diet that is designed to rid the body of poisons or harmful substances. Detox diet method is done by fasting followed by consumption of fruits, vegetables, juice, or water. Sometimes this diet also involves herbs, tea, supplements, and intestinal washing.

In addition to removing toxins, a detox diet aims to maintain a healthy diet. Therefore, avoid using laxatives that make you sweat and urinate continuously for the purpose of detoxification. The claimed detox diet can help deal with obesity, digestive problems, autoimmune diseases, and allergies.

If you are eager to go on a detox diet, you should first consult with your doctor to get safe and appropriate information. Because there are several conditions in which a person is not advised to take a detox diet, including:

Mayo diet

Mayo diet is a diet method that limits carbohydrate and salt consumption, and is carried out for 13 days. This diet promises to lose weight up to 7 kg until the end of the diet.

On the mayo diet, you can only consume protein and vegetable sources. In processing it may not use salt at all and can only be steamed or baked. So all fried foods are not allowed to be eaten.

The benefits of this mayo diet are:

  • Decreased risk of heart disease
  • Prevent high blood pressure
  • Decreased risk of diabetes

If done excessively, mayo diets can also have negative effects such as:

  • Blood sugar levels rise
  • Dangerous for diabetics
  • Dehydration
  • Nausea
  • Easily tired
  • Easy to sleep
  • Depression
  • Increased cholesterol level
  • Kidney function can be disrupted

Which diet do you choose?

Both the detox diet and mayo diet can be done provided you are in good health. However, it cannot be determined which method is the best diet of both. Because whatever type of diet method is applied, return to the comfort and compatibility of each person who lives it.

The most important thing is the safety of the diet method you choose. Do not let the lure of losing weight actually makes the body less fit or even make you fall sick.

Eliminate your desire to lose weight in a short time, because it has the potential to cause health problems. Reasonable weight loss is around 0.5 kg / week or 2-2.5 kg / month.

Know that a good diet method is to replace unhealthy foods and combine them with regular exercise. It is also important for you to reduce the number of calories a day. Avoid using diet medications that have not been proven to be medically safe. If you want to take special diet medications, please consult with your doctor first.

However, a good and correct diet must prioritize the balance of nutritional intake. If your diet only consumes fruit for days without protein or carbohydrate intake, this is certainly not recommended.

Before applying any type of diet, whether it's a detox diet or mayo diet, you should consult with your doctor about your condition, especially if you have certain diseases. A good and correct diet does not make you weak and dizzy. Instead, a good diet will make you feel more healthy and fresh.
