Obesity, Is it too much eating? find the answer here

Food is like a double-edged knife. On the one hand food can provide the nutrients the body needs, but on the other hand can cause illness for people with certain conditions. Especially if you eat too much, may-be overweight and even obese. But actually, obesity can also be triggered by something else.

 

What is obesity?

Since the first cause of obesity is already known by the public is a lot of eating and lazy exercise. In a study presented at The 17th European Congress on Obesity in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, researchers studied 1399 adults and 963 children to determine the effects of eating and physical activity on weight gain.

Obesity is an excess of fat in the body, which is generally deposited in subcutaneous tissue (under the skin), around the organs of the body, and sometimes extends into the tissues of organs (Misnadierly, 2007)). In addition, obesity is also a condition that shows the discontinuity between height and weight due to fatty tissue in the body, there is excess weight due to fatty tissue in the body resulting in excess body weight that exceeds the ideal size (Sumanto, 2009). In short, obesity is the excess fat in the body that can make the body overweight. But, not all excess fat can be an indication that someone suffering from obesity. A person can be said to be obese if his weight is greater than 30% or more of his ideal body weight (Nolen-Hoeksema, Fredrickson, Loftus & Wagenaar, 2009).

Obesity not only contributes to diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease, but also gives a negative stigma that obese people are usually lax and lacking in life (Crandall, 1994; Crocker, Cornwell, & Major, 1991). This is not really true, because there are many factors that cause obesity. Just like when someone is asked how to get to Paris, the choice of the way (what to ride a plane, or bus, or train) depends on the person who is domiciled where (Offir, 1982).




The first analysis of how many calories needed to maintain the weight of each child and adult respondents, as well as the number of calories needed to increase body weight. The result is true that many meals have a major impact on weight gain and the incidence of obesity.

However, in addition to eating too much, actually there are other causes of obesity. One is the genetic factor.

 

Genetic Factors in Obesity

Genetic component plays a major role in obesity. Children of obese parents will tend to be obese than children whose parents have an ideal weight. Even identical twins can have genetic factors that are very different from the twin.

Dr. Bouchard, a researcher from The Human Genomics, Laboratory Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Louisiana, United States, conducted a study on this subject. Bouchard and colleagues invited respondents as many as 12 pairs of identical twins, by determining in advance how many calories needed daily to keep the weight stable.

Each participant was given an additional 1000 kcal per day for 84 days with the same diet and type of food. Although each participant has increased weight and amount of fat, but the distribution of fat and body composition is different. The result, although given the same portion and type of food, weight gain has a very different range ranging from 4.3 kg to 13 kg.

In a study published in the journal Physiology and Behavior, it was studied about dietary habits on the causes of weight gain. The results showed that although genetic factors contribute up to 65% in causing obesity, the fact that dietary habits also have a significant effect.

These dietary habits include diet, eating frequency, amount or portion of food, macronutrients, and water composition. Genetics do play a big role against your tendency to be obese, but the diet remains influential.

In addition to genetic factors, obesity can also be triggered by hormonal factors, one of which is leptin. This hormone is produced by fat cells and can send signals to the hypothalamus (part of the brain that can control appetite) to then 'translated' as already full or still want to eat.

Someone who is obese has a lot of fat and a high amount of leptin. However, this leptin hormone often does not work well and becomes 'resistant'. As a result, if not obese.

Obesity is not always caused by eating a lot. Many other triggers such as genetic, hormonal, drug use or other underlying diseases. Therefore, if you are obese, do not hesitate to consult a doctor for known cause and the right diet.
