Protect Your Baby from Coronavirus

Coronavirus so far does look more likely to attack adults. However, several cases of Coronavirus infection in infants have also been found. Therefore, preventive measures need to be taken to reduce the risk of Coronavirus transmission in infants.

The coronavirus that causes COVID-19 is now found in many countries. The virus, which was first detected in Wuhan, China, is thought to have been transmitted by animals, but can also be transmitted between people through saliva or phlegm that is released when people with COVID-19 stones or sneeze.

The Coronavirus is more susceptible to attacks and causes fatal complications in people whose immune systems are weak, such as the elderly or those who are malnourished. Even so, the risk of Coronavirus infection in adults, pregnant women, and children also cannot be underestimated, especially if Coronavirus infection occurs in infants.

Recognizing the Symptoms of Coronavirus in Infants

Symptoms of Coronavirus infection can vary from person to person. Some people with COVID-19 show mild symptoms or flu-like symptoms, but there are also sufferers who experience severe symptoms due to pneumonia. These symptoms can occur within 2–14 days after exposure to the Coronavirus.

The symptoms of Coronavirus infection in infants are slightly different from the symptoms that appear in adults. In infants, Coronavirus infection can cause:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Hard to breathe
  • Not wanting to suckle or drink
  • Limp and less active
  • Diarrhea

How to Prevent Corona Virus in Infants

Until now, no drugs or vaccines have been found that can treat or prevent Coronavirus infection. However, there are various steps that Mother and Father can take to protect Little One from the Coronavirus, namely:

  • Routinely give your baby breast milk, because it contains many nutrients and antibodies that can protect babies from a variety of diseases and infections.
  • Keep your child away from people who are sick, especially those who are infected with the Coronavirus.
  • Wash your hands with soap and running water or hand sanitizer for 20 seconds before touching, holding, nursing, or feeding your child.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then immediately remove the tissue and wash your hands.
  • Use a mask when you have a cough or runny nose.

Mother or father needs to immediately take your child to the doctor if he appears to have symptoms of Coronavirus infection, especially if there is a history of contact with people infected with the Coronavirus or traveling to areas that have experienced an outbreak of COVID-19 within the last 2 weeks.
