Routine breakfast wheat decrease diabetes risk?

Not a new rule anymore if people with diabetes should maintain their diet so that blood sugar does not jump dramatically. There are some drugs that can be consumed to keep blood sugar stable. However, long-term use of the drug can have a negative impact on the body. For example, increasing the risk of degenerative diseases such as heart failure, liver, respiratory, and kidney. Well, if you want to reduce the consumption of drugs, people with diabetes should be careful choosing food, either breakfast until dinner.

Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a disease that progressively increases the number of sufferers. In the world itself, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus continues to increase. No wonder, now people increasingly keep themselves by choosing wheat as breakfast menu in the morning.

Diabetes

Diabetes occurs when the body can not produce enough insulin or the body can not use the insulin produced. The impact of diabetes is very great.

Based on data from WHO (World Health Organization), diabetes mellitus is one of the 10 most common causes of death in the world.

If investigated further, diabetes is also a risk factor for other dangerous diseases such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disorders, blindness, nerve damage, and also leg amputation.

Type 2 diabetes usually begins when a person enters the 50's, both male and female. Although a lot of negative impacts that can occur due to diabetes, actually with lifestyle changes alone, you can reduce the risk of the disease.

What is a healthy lifestyle?

Healthy lifestyle

First, keep your weight ideal, eat healthy foods, exercise regularly for at least 30 minutes each day, do not smoke or consume excessive alcohol.

Regarding healthy foods, you may be confused how to start. One way that can be done is to replace the source of carbohydrates consumed.

If you have previously consumed simple or processed carbohydrates such as white rice, pasta, and noodles, then you should now start replacing them with complex carbohydrates such as wheat.

Why wheat?

There is scientific evidence to suggest that a healthy diet rich in whole grains can protect against diabetes. Conversely, a diet high in processed carbohydrates increases the risk of diabetes.

Another study from Nurse's Health Studies I and II examined the eating or dieting habits of 160,000 women studied for 18 years. As many as 30% of women who ate at least 2 to 3 servings of wheat each day were more protected from diabetes than women who rarely eat wheat in their daily life.

In other studies that combine studies on the protective effect of wheat on diabetes also get similar results. That people who used to eat wheat every day (at least 2 servings), can reduce the risk of diabetes by 21%.

Wheat cereal

If seen, maybe this figure is not fantastic, because the new comes from dietary changes only. If only a dietary change of wheat can reduce the risk by 21-30%, when combined with other healthy lifestyles, this figure can grow larger.

However, it does not mean wheat can be used as a medicine or a kind of magic potion against diabetes. The combination of other healthy diet and exercise also play a role. Whole wheat is more difficult to digest by human digestive enzymes so that the sugar produced will be released slowly into the blood.

This makes the sugar levels in the blood will become more stable and insulin factory work in the body does not become excessive. As a result, diabetes mellitus type 2 can be prevented.

Healthy lifestyle can be started from small things like changing the type of carbohydrate. You can easily get a variety of whole wheat products in supermarkets as well as in traditional markets.

In addition to eating wheat as a breakfast menu, you also need to exercise regularly and avoid bad habits such as smoking or alcohol consumption. Do also check blood sugar levels regularly and reduce consumption of sugar to avoid the risk of diabetes.
