These 8 Habits Trigger Brain Damage

The brain is an important organ in the human body. The reason is, all information must go through the brain first, then done through members of the body movements such as the hands and feet. Therefore, it is important to keep it functioning properly.

If you think brain damage can only occur as a result of an illness, you are wrong. Brainwork and function can decrease due to the bad habits that you often do. Some habits are known to be able to make the performance of your brain damaged.

Without realizing it, you can damage the brain through bad habits that you do every day. Here are some bad habits that can cause your brain to break:

1. Lack of sleep

Many people think that lack of sleep only makes the body weak. But in fact, sleep habits that are less able to affect the brain. If you get enough sleep, the relationship between brain cells in transferring information becomes more optimal.

Adequate sleep habits, which is around 7-8 hours, can improve your memory. Besides, getting enough sleep is also beneficial to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's and make the brain more creative.

2. Don't have breakfast

You may have heard that breakfast is the most important eating activity in one day. In fact, not breakfast can damage your brain.

A Japanese study of more than 80,000 people over a 15-year period found that participants who regularly skipped breakfast would be more at risk of stroke and high blood pressure. According to researchers, blood pressure drops after breakfast. So, breakfast every day can reduce the risk of brain bleeding.

3. Overeating

Overeating in addition to effectively increasing body weight will also cause accumulation of residual substances in the form of fat and hardening of the cerebral arteries, thus impacting brain performance.

4. Rarely talk

Human needs as social beings must be fulfilled. One of them is by chatting. When chatting, you change your thoughts and feelings into languages. And, almost simultaneously, your brain works to understand the thoughts and feelings of the person you are talking to. As a result, the brain will be stronger and responsive to stimulation.

5. Work when sick

Forcing your brain to work or study while sick is a very bad idea. Why? Because a lot of the energy your body needs to recover instead is diverted to get the job done. Forcing the brain during your recovery period can even further weaken the immune system. This makes you more susceptible to disease.

6. Multitasking

Researchers at Stanford University found that people who were regularly bombarded with various streams of information and activities had more problems remembering things. Other research from the University of London also shows that multitasking (doing some activities at one time) can reduce IQ scores by 15 percent.

Meanwhile, another study found that people who are often multitasking have a high risk of permanent brain damage. The researchers found that multitasker had less brain density in the anterior cingulate cortex, the region responsible for empathy, as well as cognitive and emotional control.

7. Consume too much sweet food

Too much sweet food disrupts the absorption of nutrients in the food you consume. This can cause malnutrition. The brain needs good nutrition to keep working at optimal levels. A study in 2011 showed a strong relationship between sugar intake and cognitive function of study participants.

8. Drink alcohol

In a study in the British Medical Journal, researchers from the University of Oxford and University College London looked at the effects of alcohol consumption on the brain. This study looked at the cognitive abilities of more than 500 adults for 30 years.

The researchers found that participants who drank 15-20 glasses of alcohol three times a week were more likely to suffer from hippocampal atrophy, which is damage to the area of the brain involved in memory and spatial navigation.

Those are some habits that can unexpectedly trigger damage to your brain. So, so that the brain stays healthy and works optimally, stop doing these habits. Instead, start a better lifestyle, for example, eating nutritious balance, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep.
