These 9 foods can fight lung cancer

Consuming five or more servings of fruits, such as apples, pears, and green leafy vegetables per day can significantly reduce the risk of developing chronic lung disease. Once the results of the study were published in the Thorax journal.

In the study, scientists recorded respiratory health data in more than 44 thousand Swedish men born in 1918-1952, when they were 45-79 years old. The results showed that those who ate five or more servings of fruits and vegetables daily, 40 percent and 34 percent less likely to have COPD — narrowed airway conditions, which included bronchitis and emphysema.

Each additional portion is associated with a 4 percent lower risk of COPD for those who have quit smoking. Inflammation and pressure on oxidative tissue are the cause of COPD and smoking is a powerful trigger for this process.

Speaking of lung cancer, this deadly disease occurs due to abnormal cell growth in the lungs. This disease usually attacks men aged 40 years and over, although it does not rule out the possibility to occur in women and all age groups.




Like other types of cancer, lung cancer is classified as difficult to treat without early detection. However, this disease can still be prevented and its speed can be slowed. One way that can be applied to this is to consume the following fruits:

1. Pears

Pears contain phytochemicals called phloretin. The compound is thought to have anti-tumor properties. In a recent study looking at lung cancer cells, phloretin actually induced programmed cell death (apoptosis) in the cancer cells. Researchers feel that phloretin in pears can be used as an adjunct to the treatment of lung cancer someday.

In another study, phloretin not only played this role but also increased the anticancer effect of cisplatin - a common chemotherapy drug used for people with lung cancer.

2. Ginger

Ginger can help treat nausea due to chemotherapy. In addition, this herb is also believed to provide great benefits for those who live as a lung cancer.

Ginger contains a 6-shogaol compound that can help prevent the development of lung cancer. In research using animals, ginger is said to reduce the risk of metastasis of this deadly disease.

3. Berries

Berries such as blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and cranberries contain compounds known as anthocyanidins - one form of anthocyanidins known as delphinidin.

A diet high in delphinidin is accused of inhibiting tumor growth, limiting the ability of tumors to make new blood vessels (angiogenesis), and induced cell death (apoptosis) between cancer cells.

4. Green tea

Not only is it said to have a role in preventing the development of lung cancer, green tea is also called beneficial for those who have lived with this deadly disease.

Green tea can have these benefits because it contains theaflavins and epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) which have a greater effect than chemotherapy drugs (cisplatin).

5. Carrots

Carrots are a source of phytochemicals known as chlorogenic acid. This substance is thought to interfere with the signaling pathway in lung cancer, which ultimately helps prevent the process of angiogenesis. This is the process of growing new blood vessels that supply "life" into cancer-causing tumor cells.

6. Turmeric

Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin. Some studies say that these compounds can inhibit the invasive ability of lung cancer cells.

Although still uncertain, researchers still believe that curcumin in turmeric has an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immune stimulating effect, and can cause death in cancer cells (apoptosis).

7. Watercress

Watercress contains isothiocyanate. Although increasing the effects of radiation, these compounds are called can inhibit tumor growth and disrupt the process of cancer cell division in the body. In addition to watercress, isothiocyanate can also be found in other vegetables such as mustard greens, brussels sprouts, bok choy, kohlrabi, and cauliflower.

8. Oysters

Oysters are rich in zinc. These minerals not only have a direct role in fighting lung cancer, but can also stimulate the effects of chemotherapy drugs called taxotere (docetaxel).

9. Tomato sauce

Tomato sauce contains lycopene. This compound is known to inhibit tumor growth, interfere with the process by which lung cancer cells divide, inhibit the spread of cancer, and help clear cancer cells through apoptosis.

Not only limited to that, lycopene in tomatoes also has anti-inflammatory properties. This means, these compounds can help reduce the risk of inflammation in the body, including in the case of cancer including lung cancer.
