Unstable weight, cardiovascular risk rise

Low discipline of diet and exercise make people with obesity fail to maintain weight after undergoing weight loss program. It increases the risk of cardiovascular disease.

The clinical nutrition specialist, Samuel Oetoro, puts it up while defending his dissertation, "The Effect of Weight Loss Obesity Weight Cycling Program on Changes in Body Composition, Signs of Metabolic Syndrome, Inflammatory Markers, and Oxidative Stress", in Indonesia, Jakarta.

Due to low discipline, many people with obesity fail to maintain weight after joining the weight loss program. It can happen repeatedly. Weight loss obese patients down, then up again.

"If weight loss, should be maintained so as not to rise again because the risk of cardiovascular disease is greater than those who are new to weight loss program," he said.

Samuel explains, weight loss program during this focus on weight reduction, regardless of body composition. In fact, need a different diet program between obese people with fluctuating weight and obese people who just joined the weight loss program. Body composition are both different and the results of different diet programs. The decrease in fat mass is more prevalent in those new to the diet program.

When weight gain, fat cells enlarge and release dangerous substances that erode the blood vessels. When the walls of blood vessels are injured, cholesterol easily attached to the risk of cardiovascular disease, such as heart attacks and strokes.

This fact supports previous studies that mention obesity can also cause high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol. Both are also risk factors for heart disease.

Experts believe that obesity triggers an immune response that increases a person's risk of having a heart attack.

In a study conducted by taking a blood sample of 1,172 people with a thin body and obesity, found white blood cells or T cells are quite a lot in fat people.

When the team measured the distribution of fat, they also found that people whose fats accumulate in the middle of the body have higher levels of white blood cells, than those who have fat in the thighs and lower body.

White blood cells are essential for the immune response because they protect the body from infection. However, it also causes inflammation that worsens heart disease and blood vessels.

For example, T cells cause the formation of fatty plaques in the arteries, which can cause narrowed blood vessels to trigger a heart attack or stroke.

Higher levels of white blood cells were also found in mice fed a high-fat diet. The researchers concluded that high-fat dietary foods lead to obesity-as well as the cause of this dangerous inflammation.

Professor Federica Marelli-Berg of QMUL's William Harvey Research Institute said the results of this study revealed a direct link between the food we eat, the weight and the dangerous inflammation that can lead to heart disease.

The results of this research are expected to help experts find a drug that focuses on the molecule that causes the inflammation.
