Various treatment of stage 4 breast cancer

When cancer cells spread and affect other parts of the body besides the breast, this stage is classified as stage 4 breast cancer. This type of cancer is different from cases of recurrent cancer, where cancer will usually return to attack after therapy is declared successful and does not detect the presence of other cancer cells.

The condition of breast cancer is most severe if it has entered stage 4 or late. Although medically treating stage 4 breast cancer is very difficult to do, there are some treatments that can be done to help prolong life expectancy and relieve symptoms.

Stage rank in cancer will help the doctor determine the right treatment for the patient. In breast cancer, the determination is determined by the size of the tumor, the spread of cancer cells to the lymph nodes, or to other parts of the body. The higher the stadium number, the more severe the condition suffered.

Stage 4 of Breast Cancer Handling

There are many ways of treatment that can be given with the aim that patients can live longer with a good quality of life. For example, by reducing the size of cancer, in some cases it can slow down the development of cancer cells, thus extending life expectancy and relieving pain or discomfort.

The following types of treatment can be given to stage 4 breast cancer patients:

In stage 4 breast cancer, chemotherapy is the main treatment method. Chemotherapy can be given in the form of fluids, pills, or in the form of an infusion. The goal of the drug given is not only cancer cells in the main location, but also cancer cells that have spread to other parts of the body.

Unfortunately, this chemotherapy drug, besides killing cancer cells, can also affect healthy cells in the body. In addition, it can also give severe side effects. At an advanced stage, chemotherapy may be given along with hormone therapy.

Hormone therapy

Hormone therapy can be given to women whose hormone development is affected by hormones. In other words, hormone therapy can be given to cancer patients with positive hormone receptors. Medications included in hormone therapy include tamoxifen, anastrozole, exemestane, and letrozol.

In addition to medications, doctors can offer a choice of uterine removal in women who have not yet entered menopause. Removal of the uterus plays a role in reducing estrogen levels, thereby reducing the speed at which cancer cells spread due to hormones.

Target therapy

About 20% of women with breast cancer have cancer cells that develop rapidly because of too much protein called HER2. One drug that can target the protein is trastuzumab. This drug can be given to inhibit the growth of cancer cells specifically, while helping to increase immunity.

Radiation therapy

This step is used to destroy or inhibit the growth of cancer cells through X-ray radiation. This type of therapy is right to use if the spread of cancer cells is known with certainty. In addition to being irradiated on a developing cancer area, radiation can also be inserted through a needle or hose near the tumor site.

The application of surgery depends on the form and on which part of the cancer has spread. For example, lymph nodes that have been spread by cancer, or metastases in the lungs whose shape is still operable. In addition, in certain cases, surgery may be needed to remove the ovary to reduce estrogen levels.

The intervention method is carried out under DSA radiographic guidance, anti-cancer drugs are injected directly into the arteries of tumor cells and can effectively shrink the tumor cells. Compared to conventional intravenous chemotherapy, the intervention brings the drug directly to the cancer center, significantly reduces side effects and has a much higher level of drug concentration, so as to increase its therapeutic effect.

Cryosurgery method is also known as "Ar-He Knife", using Argon gas to reduce temperature and "freeze" tumors and surrounding tissue; using Helium gas to raise the temperature that causes the tumor to melt and kill tumor cells.

Microwave Ablation (MWA)

Microwave Ablation (MWA) uses a needle of 2mm which is inserted directly into the center of the tumor, micro-energy eradicates the tumor directly to the center. This method is done in a targeted manner, has a significant effect, and does not produce side effects on other normal tissues.

In addition, there is also stage 4 breast cancer treatment with pain management. The choice of cancer pain management method depends on the source and type of pain suffered. By relieving pain, it is expected that the patient's quality of life can be better.

Cancer treatment will be much better if done early. Performing regular breast examinations is one way to detect abnormalities in the breast as early as possible. If cancer has been detected, you are advised to see a doctor regularly to monitor the cancer condition.
