Various Ways to Overcome Blurred Vision during Pregnancy

It is not uncommon for pregnant women to complain of vision problems. One of the common vision problems experienced during pregnancy is blurred vision. Quiet pregnant women, blurred vision can be relieved in several ways below.

Blurred vision during pregnancy is usually caused by excess fluid in the body. This condition causes the cornea to become thicker and the pressure inside the eyeball increases. In addition, blurred vision during pregnancy can also be caused by dry eyes, dizziness during pregnancy, hormonal changes, to more serious conditions, such as retinal damage or preeclampsia.

Ways to Overcome Blurred Vision in Pregnant Women

Blurred vision during pregnancy will usually subside on its own about six weeks after giving birth or after finishing breastfeeding.

However, there are several ways that pregnant women can do to help overcome discomfort due to blurred vision:

1. Wear glasses when on the move

Wearing glasses while on the move will make the sight of the pregnant woman clearer and protect the pregnant woman's eyes from too bright light. In pregnant women who previously used softens, it is advisable to replace them with glasses.

2. Use artificial tears

Use artificial tear drops that can be purchased freely without a doctor's prescription to overcome blurred vision due to dry eyes. However, pregnant women should consult their obstetrician first, because not all over-the-counter eye drops are safe for use by pregnant women.

3. Routinely resting eyes when on the move

Routinely resting the eyes can also do pregnant women to overcome blurred vision. Especially if everyday pregnant women carry out activities in front of a TV, cellphone, computer, or laptop.

4. Compress the eyes with cold water

In addition to providing freshness to the eyes, compressing the eyes with a clean towel dipped in ice water is also beneficial to overcome blurred vision.

In most cases, blurred vision during pregnancy is not a dangerous thing. However, pregnant women should consult a gynecologist immediately if blurred vision occurs suddenly, or is accompanied by headaches, abdominal pain, swelling, or there are black spots on vision.

This might indicate a visual impairment caused by preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, or damage to the retina.

In addition to performing an eye examination, the doctor will also check the health condition of the pregnant woman, as well as the condition of the pregnancy and the fetus, to find out the cause of blurred vision. After the cause is known, the doctor can provide appropriate treatment.
