Cervical cancer occurs when healthy cells turn into abnormal cells due to genetic mutations or changes in DNA. This cancer cell growth is uncontrolled and develops in the cervix of a woman. Cervical cancer can be caused by several factors, but generally due to infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV) virus.

Cervical cancer is the biggest disease threat for women. That is why women are expected to pay more attention to and maintain the health of the uterus to avoid this malignant disease. Having a healthy lifestyle can avoid cervical cancer, one of which is regulating your diet. Then, are there foods that need to be avoided while undergoing cancer treatment:

1. Foods that are Warmed in the Microwave

2. Sugar

Foods that contain high sugar also need to be avoided. Because the sugar (especially artificial sugar) increases insulin levels which can trigger the growth of cancer cells.

3. Fried Food

People with cervical cancer should avoid foods that are processed by frying. Oil that has been used repeatedly can aggravate the symptoms of cervical cancer. This is because cooking oil or margarine contains trans fat which is carcinogenic.

4. Baked Food

In addition to fried foods, foods that are processed by roasting should also be avoided. This type of food is a carcinogen that increases the development of cancer cells.

5. Preserved food

For example instant noodles and food or beverage packaging. This type of food should be avoided by people with cervical cancer because it contains preservatives.

7. Specific Vegetables

Some vegetables such as bean sprouts, kale, and mustard should be avoided by people with cervical cancer. These vegetables contain substances that can trigger cancer formation or reduce drug performance.

8. Specific Fruit

Although it is good for health, there are several fruits that should be avoided by people with cervical cancer. Among them pineapple and grapes because they contain alcohol.

9. Carbonated Drinks

This drink contains preservatives and lots of sugar. Carbonated drinks also contain carcinogens which can trigger the development of cancer cells in the body.

Guide to fulfillment of nutrition for cervical cancer

The ideal diet for a day that is recommended to help you meet nutrition for cervical cancer is generally exemplified as follows:

  • Breakfast: orange juice, melon, yogurt and granola
  • Lunch: vegetables and cheese sandwiches, plus sliced peppers, mushrooms and zucchini
  • Dinner: a mixed romaine lettuce salad, plus a complement of grapefruit and whole wheat pasta with spinach, black beans, chicken and tomatoes

Most of the food ingredients contain carotenoids, folic acid and flavonoids. Why are all three important as nutrients for cervical cancer? Carotenoids are antioxidants found in vitamin A-rich foods. In addition to fruits and green vegetables, carotenoids are also found in red or orange foods, such as carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkins and squash. Many studies show that carotenoids have a positive effect on several diseases such as certain cancers, including cervical cancer.

Foods rich in folic acid have been shown to reduce the risk of cervical cancer in people infected with HPV. You can get folic acid from foods such as avocados, lentils, orange juice, romaine lettuce, strawberries, beans, fortified cereals, and bread.

Flavonoids are chemical compounds found in fruits and vegetables. Foods with flavonoids such as apples, asparagus, black beans, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, garlic, lettuce, onions, soybeans or spinach. The intake of flavonoids from food, combined with other components such as various vitamins, plays an important role in cancer prevention. Flavionoid has also been reported to play a role in keeping cancer cells duplicated under control and preventing carcinogenesis.

Now for cancer patients, don't be discouraged? The important thing is to keep trying to recover, routinely control and go to the doctor, apply a healthy lifestyle and continue to think positively.
