Foods That Cannot be Stored on The Refrigerator

Storing food in the refrigerator is used as an alternative to prevent food rot in fresh conditions. However, there are foods that should not be stored in the refrigerator, some of which are bread, spices, potatoes, onions, soy sauce, tomatoes, coffee and melons.

Do you often keep food in the fridge? Storing food in the fridge can greatly facilitate food management. In addition to preventing food rot, the refrigerator also keeps food fresh, protected from insects, and looks neater.

It's just that, not all foods are good for storing in the refrigerator. The foods below can lose their taste, nutrient content and even speed up the decay process.

Foods cannot be stored in the refrigerator

1. Bread

Although it is included as a food that is quite often found in refrigerators, bread is actually food that should not be stored in the refrigerator and is recommended to be stored at room temperature.

The starch in bread will turn into sugar quickly in cold temperatures. This supports the hardening process of bread texture. As a result, bread is not as delicious as the original.

2. Spices

Actually, spices don't need to be put in the refrigerator so they can last longer. Spices such as candlenut, laos, and so on can last at room temperature long enough.

In addition, storing it in the refrigerator will make it smell less. Of course, this also affects the delicacy of the food produced.

3. Potatoes

If you are used to storing potatoes in the refrigerator, from now on transfer the potatoes to a paper container. The temperature of a cold refrigerator will affect the freshness of the potato taste. Potatoes will survive well around the paper, which tends to absorb moisture.

4. Onions

Why is garlic included in foods that cannot be stored in the refrigerator? Storing garlic in the fridge will make it soften. The strong aroma of garlic will also affect other foods in the refrigerator, especially foods that are nearby.

The best way to store garlic is to put it in a paper container, then put it in a dry, room temperature, and dark place. It would be better if you keep it away from potatoes.

5. Tomatoes

Look at the difference in tomatoes stored in the refrigerator and at room temperature. Tomatoes stored in paper containers at room temperature tend to be fresher. While tomatoes stored in temperatures below 5o Celsius the skin tends to shrink.

The water content in it is also reduced. Even though tomatoes ripen faster in cold temperatures, their original taste will change considerably.

6. Ketchup

Processed soy sauce factory contains food preservatives in it. So you don't have to bother storing it in the fridge. In addition, the temperature of the refrigerator can make the texture of soy sauce harden so that it will be difficult to remove from the packaging.

7. Coffee

Of course, coffee fans know this. Cold temperatures the refrigerator can condense coffee. As a result, the taste of coffee will be affected. Both ground coffee and seeds should be stored in an airtight container at room temperature.

8. Melon

The antioxidants contained in melons will be reduced if stored in the refrigerator. But if you have cut the melon, store it in the refrigerator to prevent decay that lasts faster in this condition.

9. Oil

Various types of oils such as olive oil, virgin coconut oil, or palm oil cannot enter the refrigerator. The oil stored in the refrigerator will thicken and freeze into margarine. After all, oil can last a long time without being put in the refrigerator. You can store it in a dark place at room temperature.
